HOW TO MONOGRAM YOUR STUFF

Does your sister frequently take your clothes? Do you want to give your bandana or backpack a special touch? Names and patterns can be chain stitched onto pretty much everything you possess.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Needle
Thread (the thicker and fluffier, the better)
Your garment
Chalk
Scissors
Embroidery hoop or masking tape

STEP ONE
Chalk the words or pattern onto your clothing.

STEP TWO
Put masking tape or an embroidery hoop around your design. Slice a length of thread. Leave a loop of thread on one side and feed both ends through the needle.

STEP THREE
Stitch through the area of your fabric where the pattern would begin if you were writing a letter starting from the back. You'll leave a loop on the back if you don't pull the thread all the way through quite yet. Then sew through again to the reverse side. Don't draw the thread all the way through; instead, position the needle very near the beginning of the first stitch and pull it back to the back of the fabric. Another loop will be left on the front side as a result.

STEP FOUR
Use the needle to snag the thread loop on the fabric's reverse side. To secure the initial stitch, pull the loop on the fabric's front side. Keep your stitching as neat as you can as you repeat the pattern along your outline. You must finalise your design by securing the stitching.

STEP FIVE

To remove extra chalk and even out the stitching, press the clothing. Try it on when you're finished. And make sure no one takes it.
