DIY TINT DIP: ADD A SPLASH OF COLOR AND CREATIVITY TO LIGHT-COLORED GARMENTS

Utilize this DIY Tint Dip technique to revitalize your light-colored clothing. Anyone can do it if they have a bucket, an oven, and a little imagination.

WHAT TO BRING
  • white or light-colored clothing for dying
  • dye or colour (in this case, a fabric-friendly acrylic pigment)
  • 2 to 3 pots or buckets
  • water supply
  • Gloves
  • In case you're inside, a drop cloth
  • place you can hang your things to dry
  • Stir stick
  • twine and hangers
  • Oven
  • baking sheets without food
  • a washing machine or a tub

STEP 1
Clean and soak your clothes.
The clothes should be thoroughly rinsed to get rid of any oils and get them ready for dying.

STEP 2
Prepare the dyes.
In your container, dilute a fabric-friendly, water-based acrylic pigment. If you want a richer hue, add more dye since more dye produces more pigment.

STEP 3
As desired, tie your clothes to the hanger.
Wrap a piece of twine through the buttons on your garment, then fasten it on a hanger where you want it to be dyed. Use only the hanger to dip items without buttons.

STEP 4
Dip, then allow to sit for a minute.
Use one hand to rub the pigment around your outfit so the colour gets on all surfaces by dipping each garment in separately. After a minute, remove the clothing from the dye and completely wring it out.

STEP 5
Let it air dry outside.
The majority of pigment must dry for at least two hours before curing. If you're using different colours, let the fabric dry completely before dipping it into the second dye solution to prevent pigment from dropping and shifting.

STEP 6
If necessary, repeat steps two through five (based on style and desired colors).
Repeat the procedure however many times you want your colours to be. To dip the clothing from a different angle, think about retying it to a hanger.

STEP 7
To meet pigment standards, heat in an oven.
Set the oven to the temperature specified in the dye instructions. Make sure you have sufficient airflow and baking sheets made of non-food. Bake for the recommended amount of time, often eight minutes.

STEP 8
To soften, wash and dry.
washing the cured item on cold. Add an additional rinse cycle to seal in the appearance. Use a dryer if you must, or hang dry (it's better for the environment!).

Rock your new appearance!
